Supplies: piece of plain or muslin cloth (for the inner pillow) piece of fancy or decorative cloth (for the outer pillow) your choice of herbs and oils eyedropper wooden or glass bowl wooden spoon
Note: You should never mix herbs and oils with or in anything metal
Directions: Cut the plain or muslin cloth into two pieces, each measuring 12" x 8". Place the pieces together. With a ¾ inch seam allowance, stitch together the two 8" sides and one of the 12" sides. When the three sides are sewn to form a bag, turn the bag inside out so the seams are now on the inside. This is the inner pillow that you will put the herbs in.
Using the fancier material cut two pieces, each measuring 12" x 8 ". Stitch them the same as the inner pillow, but with only a 3/8 inch seam allowance. Once three sides are sewn, turn the bag inside out so the seams are on the inside. If you wish to decorate the outer pillow, you can sew on designs or decorate with fabric paint. If you want to make the cover removable for washing, turn down a small hem on the open end and attach velcro or snaps to keep it closed.
In a large wooden or glass bowl, mix together the herbs you have chosen with a wooden spoon. Mix gently, as if you are tossing a salad. Add the chosen oils to the herbs with an eyedropper. Use no more than 5-6 drops at a time until you reach the desired strength. Note that what smells nice in the bowl could be too strong when sleeping on the pillow.
Fill the inner pillow with the herb and oil mixture. Leave it a little flat; if you pack it too full it will be uncomfortable to sleep on. Turn in a little of the open end so the raw edges are inside, then sew this end shut. Slide this inside your decorated cover, attach the fasteners or sew the pillow shut, and you are ready to sleep on your new dream pillow.
