A Maypole is a great addition to a Beltane celebration. However, it may not be practical for some to construct a full-sized Maypole. Instead, consider making a Maypole Centerpiece for your altar or table.
List of Supplies: 1 foot long dowel rod or straight branch, 1/4” to 1” in diameter
1 wooden circle, about 4” in diameter (You can also use anything of similar size that is fairly heavy as this will be the base for your pole.)
Ribbons in various colors, each about 2 feet long
hot glue gun optional: artificial flowers and other decorations
1 - Use the hot glue gun to attach the dowel rod or branch to the center of the wooden circle (or other base).
2 — optional — Stain or paint the pole and/or base once the glue has dried. 3 - Attach the center of each ribbon to the top of the dowel rod.
4 — optional — Glue flowers to the base to represent fertility.
5 — optional — Attach flowers or other decorations to the top of the pole.
You can also use this as a centerpiece on top of a cake by changing the instructions slightly. Omit the base and insert the pole into the top of a layer cake. Be sure the cake is tall enough to prevent the pole from tipping over.
